Privacy policy

1. Overview

Steward is a household-planning service operated by Steward Labs, Inc. This policy explains how we collect, use, retain, and disclose personal information when you use the Steward app, website, and connected services.

Steward is designed around a simple boundary: a household shares plans, not a person's data. Personal sources begin private to the person who connects or creates them. Steward does not make private source material visible to other household members unless an authorized user deliberately shares a resulting plan or detail.

2. Information we handle

Account and household information

We process identifiers needed to create your account, connect your device, establish household membership, and keep each member's access appropriately separated.

Planning information

Depending on the features you use, Steward may process events, reminders, goals, routines, meals, purchases, health or fitness details, and other information you choose to add or connect. The app explains when a source is personal and gives you controls for its audience.

Connected-service information

If you choose to connect a third-party service, we process the authorization tokens and data needed to provide that connection. Connections are optional and can be removed from Steward.

Technical information

We may process device, request, security, and diagnostic information needed to operate, protect, and improve Steward. We do not use personal household information for advertising.

3. Google and Gmail data

Connecting Gmail is optional. If you connect it, Steward requests the read-only Gmail permission gmail.readonly. Steward uses that access only to provide user-facing household-planning features inside the app.

What Steward accesses

Steward begins with messages received after you connect the account. It excludes spam, trash, sent mail, and drafts, and filters promotional or social mail before retrieving full content. For messages that may contain useful planning information, Steward may access sender, subject, date, snippet, labels, and message body text.

How Steward uses it

Steward looks for specific, user-visible details such as receipts, deliveries, reservations, travel, bills, subscriptions, and dates. A finding is presented privately to the connecting user. Any consequential addition or change to the household plan requires review and approval.

What Steward cannot do

Steward cannot send, compose, edit, label, archive, delete, or mark Gmail messages as read. Steward does not provide an email inbox, email search, or mailbox-management interface.

How Gmail information is stored

OAuth tokens and temporarily retrieved message bodies are encrypted at rest. Message bodies are removed as soon as processing succeeds and, in all cases, within 24 hours. Message subjects and snippets are cleared after processing and within 24 hours of reaching a completed state. Steward may retain the extracted planning detail, a minimal supporting excerpt, and limited provenance so you can understand where a finding came from.

Google limited-use compliance

Steward's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Google user data is not used for advertising, sold, or used to train general-purpose artificial intelligence models.

4. Sharing and disclosure

We do not sell personal information. We may disclose information to service providers that help operate Steward, under contractual and security obligations; when you deliberately share a plan or detail with another household member; to protect Steward, our users, or others; or when required by law.

Raw Gmail messages are never shared with other household members through Steward. A reviewed, derived planning detail may enter the household plan only when the authorized user approves that change.

5. Retention, security, and deletion

We retain information only as long as needed to provide Steward, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, and protect the service. Retention depends on the kind of information and the choices you make.

We use safeguards designed to protect personal information, including encrypted transport, encryption for sensitive connected-service credentials and transient email content, access controls, and separation between households. No service can guarantee absolute security.

When you disconnect Gmail, Steward revokes the connection where possible and removes its access credentials, transient message records, and unreviewed findings. You may choose to remove all retained Gmail-derived findings as part of disconnection. Information already approved into an independent household plan item may remain until that item is separately deleted.

6. Your choices and rights

You can choose which sources to connect, disconnect a source, control eligible sharing, dismiss findings, and request access to or deletion of your personal information. Applicable privacy laws may give you additional rights, such as correction, portability, restriction, or objection.

You can also revoke Steward's Google access from your Google Account security settings. Revoking access at Google stops future access; use Steward's disconnect and deletion controls to remove retained information from Steward.

7. Children, changes, and international processing

Steward is intended for adults organizing a household. A child or supervised household member should use Steward only through a parent or guardian and the age-appropriate controls offered by the platform and applicable law.

Steward may process information in Canada, the United States, and other places where our service providers operate. We may update this policy as Steward changes. Material updates will be presented through the site, the app, or another appropriate notice.
